On a recent Monday, a 2012 Ford Escape was stolen from its owner’s home in Los Angeles, CA. The thief was a relative of the victim. Luckily, a sharp-eyed neighbor spotted the act and informed the car’s owner. Local law enforcement, assisted by the LoJack® system the owner had installed at purchase, recovered the vehicle and took the suspect into custody later that same day.

The Ford’s owner contacted local police to report the crime on June 16th, 2014. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Escape.

A short while later, a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department flight crew picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter. The Ford was found traveling in the area of 87th and Vermont Avenue. The flight crew directed ground units to the location. A traffic stop was performed and the driver (who was also the named suspect) was taken into custody, as well as one of the passengers who had an outstanding warrant. The undamaged Escape was retrieved and soon returned to its delighted owner.
