A Toyota Yaris was stolen on a recent Friday the 13th in Los Angeles, CA. it may seem that the car’s owners were experiencing typical bad luck on this day, but they had one factor in their favor- their vehicle was protected with the LoJack® system when it was purchased. Local law enforcement, assisted by LoJack, located the Yaris in just minutes after activation.

On June 13th, 2014, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Walnut Station to report their vehicle was stolen. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the Yaris, which was installed at Hamer Toyota in Mission Hills, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, Glendale PD Air-100 flight officers picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their air ship. The flight crew located the Toyota in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Glendale and notified ground units. One male suspect inside the car was taken into custody. Police retrieved the Yaris and soon returned it to its relieved owners.
