Escondido, California Police Department Recovers Stolen Mazda MX-5 Convertible with Help from the LoJack® System

The owner of a Mazda MX-5 discovered her convertible was missing from her Escondido, CA home on a recent Friday. Thanks to the excellent work of local law enforcement, assisted by the LoJack® system, recovered the car later that same day.

On March 21st, 2014, the Mazda’s owner contacted the San Diego Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the MX-5, which was installed at Claremont Ford Mazda in Claremont, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the Escondido PD picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Mazda was located while traveling on York Street. A traffic stop was initiated; the driver tried to flee on foot but was soon taken into custody. The MX-5 was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner.
