The owner of a construction business arrived at a job site in Tracy, CA, on a recent Wednesday and discovered that the 2014 Takeuchi Mini-Excavator he had rented was missing. The rental company was pro-active in taking care of its assets and had protected this machine with the LoJack® system. With LoJack’s help, local police were able to make a quick, safe recovery and take the suspected thief into custody.

On May 28th, 2014, the owner of the construction business contacted the Tracy Police Department to report the equipment was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the equipment information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the mini-excavator.

The next morning, members of the DELTA-RATT auto theft task force picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen machine on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers followed the signal to a farm just north of Tracy with a closed and locked metal barn. A resident at the scene opened the barn and revealed the Takeuchi inside. She was discovered to be on probation and was taken into custody. The mini-excavator, valued at $35,000, was retrieved and returned to the rental company.
