On a recent Wednesday, a 2013 Bobcat S650 Skid Steer was no longer at the construction site in Lockport, IL, where it had been parked the previous evening. The equipment’s owners were well aware of the popularity of construction equipment amongst thieves, as well as the thriving black market for stolen machines, and that is why they chose to protect their asset with the LoJack® system. With LoJack’s help, local law enforcement recovered the skid steer on the same day it was discovered missing.

The owner of the Bobcat reported the incident to the Will County Sheriff’s Department on May 28th, 2014. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the skid steer.

A short while later, a sergeant from the Lamont PD picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen machine on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The Bobcat was found in a parking lot for tractor semi-trailers in Lamont, parked and abandoned in a numbered stall. The undamaged S650, valued at $48,700, was retrieved and soon returned to the construction site. Police investigation into this theft continues.
