In this case, it was pretty easy for the suspect to steal a Ford Explorer from its owner’s Beaumont, CA home because he had somehow gotten a set of keys to the SUV in his possession. Getting away with the crime was not so easy thanks to the LoJack® system hidden inside the Explorer, which helped local law enforcement recover it and take the suspected thief into custody.

On May 13th, 2014, the Ford’s owner of a Ford Explorer contacted the Beaumont Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the Explorer, which was installed at South Bay Ford in Manhattan Beach, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the Riverside County Gang Task Force picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers followed the signal to Hemet and notified the Riverside Autotheft Interdiction Detail (RAID), who began surveillance on the vehicle. A short time later, a male suspect was observed entering the SUV, and was detained and later arrested with keys to the Explorer in his pocket. The vehicle was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner.
