The owner of a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic had just parked her car on a recent Saturday when a female came up behind her, pushed her to the ground and demanded her car keys. The victim did as requested and the thief took off in her vehicle. With help from the LoJack® system that was installed when the car was purchased, local law enforcement not only recovered it without damage but captured the suspect as well.

On May 2nd, 2014, the Chevy’s owner contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department in East Los Angeles to report the crime. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the Sonic, which was installed at Felix Chevrolet in Los Angeles, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from Downey PD picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Chevy was found in an apartment complex lot with a woman inside. She was taken into custody by the LASD, and later identified as the attacker. The undamaged Sonic was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner.
