The owner of a Mercedes Benz E320 in California left their vehicle unlocked with the keys in the ignition. They probably weren’t gone for long but it only took a moment for a thief to slip into the driver’s seat and take off.  The crook later changed the license plate to avoid detection, which would have halted a visual search but not the LoJack® system. LoJack’s silent homing signals helped local law enforcement recover the Benz and arrest the thief that same day.

On March 6th, 2014, the owner of the Mercedes contacted the Riverside Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the E320, which was installed at Mercedes Benz of Anaheim, CA.

A short while later, Riverside Sheriff’s deputies from the K-9 Unit picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicles.  The Mercedes was located at a gas station in Old Town Temecula, parked with three suspects nearby. The license plate on the E320 had been switched. The suspects were detained and were in possession of drugs, plastic syringes, burglary tools and keys for several different makes of vehicles. The undamaged E320 was retrieved and soon returned to its happy owner.
