This case involves a Peterbilt dump truck stolen in Irwindale, CA. The owners were especially lucky that they had the LoJack® system installed to protect this particular asset. Why? Well, when police located the machine, it was about to have its dump bed removed by a welder.

On March 22nd, 2014, the Peterbilt’s owner contacted the Irwindale Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the dump truck.

A while later, a San Bernardino Sheriff’s Deputy and California Highway Patrol investigators picked up the homing signals from the stolen truck on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Peterbilt was located at a welding business in Bloomington. The thief had brought the truck there to have the dump bed cut off. Police determined that the staff was unaware that the truck was stolen. They identified the suspect who had brought the truck to the location and police arrested him. The dump truck was recovered and soon returned to its relieved owners.
