It was just after midnight on a recent Sunday when the owner of a Honda Civic was carjacked at gunpoint in Whittier, CA. Luckily, this victim was not injured. The LoJack® system that was installed when the car was purchased proved its worth by helping local police recover it later that same morning.

On February 9th, 2014, the Honda’s owner contacted the Whittier Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Civic, which was installed at Honda Cars of Corona, CA.

A short time later, Whittier PD officers and Los Angeles Sheriff’s deputies picked up the homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computers that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. An LASD airship located the Honda parked and abandoned and directed ground crews to the area. Whittier PD found one of the suspects in a nearby apartment complex and took him into custody. The Civic was retrieved and quickly returned to its relieved owner.
