This case involves a Magnum Light Tower stolen from its rental location in California. The leasing company that owned this equipment was smart enough to protect its rental fleet with the LoJack® system. Local law enforcement, assisted by LoJack, recovered the machine in only 10 minutes after activation.

On February 27th, 2014, the Magnum’s owners contacted police in West Los Angeles Division to report that their Light Tower was stolen after having been rented. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Magnum.

Just a few minutes later, patrol officers picked up the homing signal from the stolen equipment on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers located the Magnum near the area of the 405 Freeway and Wilshire Blvd., where it was hidden in an area with other construction equipment, and was not visible from the freeway. The Light Tower was retrieved and soon returned to the grateful rental company.
