A Mercedes Benz E320W was discovered missing in the West Valley area of Los Angeles, CA, early one Monday morning. The owners made the mistake of leaving a spare key inside the car, so a thief hoping to steal just the contents ended up taking the whole machine. These victims didn’t have to worry long thanks to the LoJack® system that was installed in the car when it was purchased. Local law enforcement, with the help of LoJack, recovered the E320W in just three hours and 10 minutes after activation.

On February 24th, 2014, the owners of the Mercedes contacted local police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the E320W, which was installed at Toyota of Hollywood, CA.

A short time later, patrol officers picked up the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. With help from a patrol helicopter, the officers located the Mercedes traveling in the vicinity of De Soto and Oxnard Streets. After a brief pursuit, the suspect abandoned the Benz in a hospital parking lot and fled on foot, but was soon found and taken into custody. The E320W was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner.
