This case involves air and ground officers in California teaming up, with assistance from the LoJack® system, to recover a stolen Toyota Corolla and capture a suspect, in less than 15 minutes after activation.

On February 8th, 2014, the Toyota’s owners contacted local law enforcement to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the Corolla, which was installed at Toyota of Hollywood, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, flight officers picked up the homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their helicopter. They located the Toyota pulling into the parking lot of a coffee bar. When the driver left the vehicle and entered the business, the flight crew requested ground assistance. After a brief surveillance, the suspect approached the car but was taken into custody before he could leave. The undamaged Corolla was quickly returned to its relieved owner.
