The Alameda County, CA Regional Auto Theft Task Force (ACRAT) had been keeping a watchful eye on a junkyard in Oakland, believing it to be a possible chop shop operation. The officers were suspicious of activity happening on the premises, especially when a Magnum Light Trailer appeared in the lot with its markings removed. Thanks to the LoJack® system protecting the trailer, detectives were able to recover it and a whole lot more.

On February 3rd, 2014, a nearby construction site discovered that it was missing one Magnum Light Trailer, and notified Oakland Police. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the machine.

Just three minutes after activation, ACRAT members watching the junk yard picked up the homing signals from the stolen machine on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The LoJack signal gave them a reason to obtain a Search Warrant for the junk yard. There, the detectives located the stolen Magnum along with stolen engines, auto parts, several other trailers and a tent trailer.  11 suspects were taken into custody, and the Light Trailer was soon returned to the construction site.
