It was a Wednesday afternoon when the owners of a Mazda 3 in Whittier, CA, discovered it had been stolen. Thanks to the excellent work of local law enforcement, and the assistance of the LoJack® system installed in their car, it was recovered in less than four hours after activation.

On December 11th, 2013 the owners of the Mazda contacted the Whittier Police to report their vehicle stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The process automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the 3, which was installed at Long Beach Lincoln Mercury Mazda in Long Beach, CA.

A short while later, officers with the Whittier PD and a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department airship picked up the homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft.  The LASD airship located the Mazda in a shopping center parking lot. Whittier ground officers set up surveillance. A short time later the officers saw a female enter the vehicle through the driver door, and arrested her before she could drive away.  The 3 was retrieved and soon returned to its happy owner.
