This case involves the air and ground units of a California police department working with the LoJack® system to not only recover a stolen Nissan Altima, but to take the suspected perpetrator into custody as well.

On December 5th, 2013, the Nissan’s owner contacted local police to report that their vehicle had been stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Altima, which was installed at Power Nissan of El Monte, CA.

A short while later, the flight crew of a Fresno PD helicopter picked up the homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computer installed in the aircraft. The flight crew tracked the Nissan to a residential area in southeast Fresno, where it was hidden under a tarp in the backyard of a private residence. Ground crews were alerted and arrested a female suspect at the scene. The undamaged Altima was recovered and soon returned to its happy owner.
