Leaving keys inside an unlocked vehicle is never a good idea, no matter where you are parked and how short a time you are going to be gone. The California based owner of a Honda Civic EX found this out the hard way when her car was stolen just after 11 pm on a recent Wednesday. The LoJack® system she had installed when purchasing her Civic came to the rescue, helping local law enforcement recover the car in just over an hour after activation.

On December 10th, 2013, the Honda’s owner reported the incident to the Sacramento Police Department. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the NCIC national system. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Civic, which was installed at AutoWest Honda in Roseville, CA.

A short while later, officers with both the Sacramento PD and the Citrus Heights PD began to receive the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They located the Honda parked and abandoned on Westgate Way. The Civic’s owner was grateful to have her vehicle returned to her.
