When the owners of a Chevrolet Suburban in Pomona, CA, noticed their SUV missing, they probably did not expect a friend had taken it. The truth was revealed thanks to the LoJack® system they had installed when purchasing their vehicle. Their local police, assisted by LoJack, were able to recover the Suburban in just over three hours after activation.

On November 4th, 2013, the Chevy’s owner contacted the Pomona Police Department to report the incident. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Suburban, which was installed at Gateway Chevrolet in La Mirada, CA.

A short while later, Fontana PD officers picked up the homing signal from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Assistance was requested and San Bernardino Sheriff’s helicopter 40-KING responded. The Chevy was tracked to the area of Randall and Alder, where the Suburban was located backed into a driveway at a residence. Two suspects, one male and one female, were removing articles from the vehicle. The female admitted to taking her friend’s car without permission, and was taken into custody. The undamaged SUV was soon returned to its relieved owner.
