When the LoJack® system is used by police to recover a stolen car, truck, van or motorcycle, the officers tracking the vehicle never know if it was taken nearby or from further away, because the activation of a LoJack turns the homing signal on in every area in the United States with LoJack coverage. In this case, a 2011 Lexus IS 250 stolen in Carlsbad, CA is recovered in Encinitas, only 15 minutes away, thanks to local law enforcement assisted by LoJack.

On October 14th, 2013, the owner of the Lexus contacted the Carlsbad Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the IS 250, which was installed at Lexus San Diego in San Diego, CA.

A short while later, deputies from San Diego County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  The deputies tracked the Lexus to a residential area in Encinitas, where they found it parked and abandoned. The IS 250, valued at approximately $27,550, was soon returned to its very happy owner.
