When a Toyota Highlander was stolen in Bakersfield, CA, just after lunch on a recent Tuesday, the victims knew the LoJack® system they had installed when purchasing their SUV had been a wise choice. Thanks to local law enforcement, assisted by LoJack, their Highlander was recovered, without damage, that same day.

On October 22nd, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Bakersfield Police to report the theft. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the Highlander, which was installed at Toyota of North Hollywood, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, the flight crew of a Kern County Sheriff’s Department helicopter picked up the homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter. The flight crew tracked the vehicle to the vicinity of King and Texas Streets in east Bakersfield and then alerted ground units. A responding patrol deputy tracked the vehicle to a motel parking lot. He stopped the Toyota as it was pulling out and arrested the two occupants. The undamaged Highlander was soon returned to its grateful owner.
