Many people would call Monday the worst day of the week. The Rocklin, CA resident in this case had a particularly bad Monday because he woke up to find his 2008 Volkswagen GTI missing from his driveway. His day did get a little better thanks to the LoJack® system he had installed when he purchased his VW- with LoJack’s help, local police recovered the GTI in less than 90 minutes after activation.

On October 21st, 2013, the VW’s owner reported the crime to the Rocklin Police Department. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the NCIC national system. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the GTI, which was installed at Niello Volkswagen in Sacramento, CA.

Just over an hour later, California Highway Patrol Air 21 received the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their airship. The air unit requested ground unit support and both Sacramento Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Placer Auto Theft Task Force responded. The ground units located the VW inside a gated apartment complex in North Highlands. The undamaged GTI was recovered and soon returned to its relieved owners.
