This intriguing case involves an Aston Martin Vantage stolen from a dealership in Texas, and recovered in California, thanks to police assisted by the LoJack® system, in a very unexpected location.

In September of 2013, an auto dealer in Stafford, TX, sold a 2008 Aston Martin Vantage to a customer who used fraudulent identification at the time of purchase. The dealer contacted the Stafford Police Department and reported the fraud. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Vantage.

A short while later, officers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They tracked the Aston Martin to a police impound lot. It had been seized and stored as evidence from a large identity theft ring. The impounding officers had not been able to determine where the car was from prior to the LoJack activation. The Vantage was soon returned to the relieved dealership.
