The faster a stolen vehicle is recovered, the less time the thief has to damage it. That’s the theory behind the LoJack® system, which helps police locate missing cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles fast. In this case, a Toyota Prius stolen in San Luis Obispo, CA is recovered in Pismo Beach in just 11 minutes after activation.

On September 30th, 2013, the Toyota’s owners contacted the San Luis Obispo Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Prius, which was installed at Torrance Toyota in Torrance, CA.

A very short time later, officers from the Pismo Beach Police Department picked up the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol units. The officers began tracking the Toyota as it was being driven in Pismo Beach. Additional patrol and motor officers responded to the area. The suspect drove into a dead end street and was taken into custody. The Prius was soon returned to its grateful owners.
