The owners of the Honda Civic stolen in this case discovered their car missing early one Sunday morning. The LoJack® system the owners had installed when buying their car proved its worth by helping local law enforcement recover it in just 90 minutes after activation.

On September 15th, 2013, the Honda’s owners contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Lakewood station to report the crime. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the Civic, which was installed at Riverside Metro Auto Group in Riverside, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short time later, officers with the Whittier Police picked up the homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the vehicle to the parking lot of a strip mall in Santa Fe Springs, where the vehicle was found parked and abandoned. The Honda was also warm to the touch, indicating it had been recently driven. Officers also saw a male walking along nearby railroad tracks. After questioning, he admitted he had stolen the vehicle and was taken into custody. The Civic was soon returned to its happy owner.
