The California residents in this case were having their home fumigated when an enterprising thief slipped in and stole several items, including the keys to their 2013 Toyota Tacoma, and then drove away in the truck. Just a few months earlier, the victim chose to have the LoJack system installed at the time of purchase, so local law enforcement was able to recover the Tacoma in less than an hour after activation.

On September 21st, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department- Compton to report the crime. LASD deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the Tacoma, which was installed at Penske Toyota Scion in Downey, CA.

A short time later, a deputy from the LASD Compton Station picked up the homing signal from the stolen truck on the LoJack Tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. He tracked the signal to Oatwood and Caldwell St where he observed the Toyota parked and unoccupied. After a brief surveillance, a male suspect entered the vehicle and drove off. Deputies stopped the truck and arrested the suspect, who was in possession of the other stolen property from the victim’s home. The Tacoma, with an estimated value of $25,650, was soon returned to its relieved owner.
