It’s not known what the owner of the Hyundai Elantra in this case had planned for Saturday night, but having his car stolen probably wasn’t on his to do list. The LoJack® system he had installed when he purchased his vehicle came in handy- it assisted local police in recovering his vehicle in just a little over one hour after activation.

On September 14th, 2013, the Hyundai’s owner contacted the Chula Vista Police to report that his vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This process automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Elantra, which was installed at Frank Motors Hyundai in National City, CA.

A very short time later, officers from Chula Vista PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the vehicle to a residential area, and arrested two juveniles that were inside the vehicle. One suspect also had a warrant and controlled substances were also found in the vehicle. The owner was very happy to have his undamaged Elantra returned to him.
