Imagine how awful this Los Angeles, CA resident felt when he discovered his 2013 BMW 328 missing one evening at a quarter to midnight. The victim didn’t have long to worry, though, because the LoJack® system he had installed when he purchased the car helped local law enforcement recover it in just over a half hour after activation.

On September 12th, 2013, the BMW’s owner contacted local police to report the vehicle had been stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the 328, which was installed at Crevier BMW in Santa Ana, CA.

A very short time later, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Air 22 flight deputies picked up the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed on their airship. They tracked the signal into Hawthorne and requested backup from Hawthorne PD of the tracking. A ground unit officer located the BMW at a service station, where a man was standing near the stolen car. The suspect tried to walk away but the officer stopped him and took him into custody. The undamaged 328, with an approximate value of $48,575, was soon returned to its very grateful owner.
