A car dealership in Elk Grove, CA, discovered they were the victims of fraud in this case. When it was determined that the Ford F-150 they sold was purchased with a bad check, and the information from the customer was false, they attempted to track it with the installed GPS only to find that the thief had disabled it. Luckily, the truck was also protected by the LoJack® system. The thief couldn’t see it because it was hidden in the truck, and local police used its homing signal to recover the truck and return it to the dealership.

On September 9th, 2013, the dealership contacted Elk Grove police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the pickup’s information the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the NCIC national system. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the vehicle, which was installed at Future Ford in Sacramento, CA.

A short while later, officers with the Sacramento City College Police Department, along with officers with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, began to receive the homing signal from the F-150 on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers located the truck being driven near the campus of Sacramento City College. They stopped the truck and the driver, who was on probation for a similar crime from three years ago, was taken into custody. The undamaged Ford was soon returned to the relieved dealership.
