When the California based owners of the 2013 Kia Rio in this case had the LoJack® system installed while buying their car, they probably didn’t anticipate having to utilize it less than four months later- but that’s exactly what happened.

On September 5th, 2013, the Kia’s owners contacted the Riverside, CA County Sheriff’s Department to report their vehicle had been stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the Rio, which was installed at Perris Valley Dodge Jeep in Perris, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the Bell Gardens PD picked up the homing signal from Kia on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The car was tracked to a motel parking lot on Florence Ave. After a brief surveillance, a male entered the Kia and drove out of the lot. Officers performed a traffic stop and took the suspect into custody. The undamaged Rio was soon returned to its grateful owner.
