When the owner of a Volkswagen Jetta found his car missing from his Los Angeles home one Saturday evening, he probably wasn’t expecting police to recover it in less than three hours, but thanks to the LoJack system he had installed when buying his VW, local law enforcement did just that.

On August 3rd, 2013, the VW’s owner contacted the local city police to report that his vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Jetta, which was installed at New Century Volkswagen in Glendale, CA.

A short time later, deputies from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department-Compton Station picked up the homing signals from the stolen VW on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The deputies tracked the vehicle to a driveway at a residence on East Laurel Street. A male resident confessed to stealing the vehicle and was taken into custody. The Jetta’s owner was very happy to have his undamaged car returned to him.
