The LoJack® System Assists California Highway Patrol in Recovery of 2013 Audi S8 in One Hour, One Minute

An Audi dealership is the victim in this case when a customer purchased a high end vehicle with a very bad check. Obviously, the thief was not aware that one of the ‘bells and whistles’ he didn’t pay for was the LoJack® system- which helped local police recover the car in just over an hour after activation.
On August 13th, 2013, the dealership contacted the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Auto Theft Task Force and reported that a customer purchased a 2013 Audi S8 with a bad down payment check for $18,000, and falsified his information on a credit application. The CHP Investigator verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the NCIC national system. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the vehicle.
A very short time later, officers with East Bay Parks Police Air 1 received the homing signal from the Audi on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter. The flight crew notified ground units of the car’s location and a CHP K-9 unit responded. The K-9 officer then observed the vehicle being driven near Vacaville. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, who had a lengthy record, was taken into custody. The dealership was thrilled to have the A8, with an approximate value of $120,000, back in its possession.
