The victim in this case had an overnight guest, and, like most polite hosts, he probably told her to help herself to whatever she might need- but it’s pretty sure he didn’t mean for her to take his wallet, car keys and Chevrolet Tahoe. When he woke up a little after 3 am that Sunday morning and found his guest and his belongings gone, it’s a sure bet that he was glad he had the LoJack® system installed when he purchased his Tahoe, so police were able to recover his vehicle in just over three and a half hours after activation.
On August 11th, 2013, the Tahoe’s owner contacted San Francisco Police. Officers verified the crime information and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the SUV, which was installed at Stewart Automotive Group in Colma, CA.
A short time later, San Mateo Auto Theft Task Force members picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the Chevy with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Task Force officers tracked the Tahoe to Daly City, where it was being driven by a female. Police stopped the car and arrested the driver, who was in possession of the victim’s belongings. The SUV was soon returned to its grateful owner.
