When a vehicle is stolen, it’s not always moved very far from its original location. Sometimes the thief will stash it nearby to wait until the search cools off before relocating it further away. That’s where the LoJack® system comes in- sending out a homing signal to help police locate the car, truck, motorcycle or van, whether it’s far away or in the same town, as in this case where a Pontiac Grand Prix was stolen late on a weekday morning and recovered in just over an hour.

On July 29th, 2013, the Pontiac’s owner contacted Hayward, CA police. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the Grand Prix, which was installed at Enterprise Car Sales in Concord, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, Hayward Police and California Highway Patrol (CHP) picked up the homing signals from the Pontiac with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. CHP-Hayward officers located the stolen car parked and abandoned on a street a few miles from where it was stolen. The Grand Prix’s owner was thrilled to get his undamaged vehicle returned in such a short amount of time.
