The Chula Vista resident in our next case was pretty happy that he was able to sell his BMW 750I himself- until he found out the check he received as payment was fraudulent. We’re not sure if he told the ‘buyer’ about the LoJack® system installed in the car- but it did help police recover it in less than two hours after activation.

On July 23rd, 2013, the BMW’s owner contacted the Chula Vista Police Department to report the car as stolen after the check bounced. CVPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the BMW, which was installed at BMW of Bakersfield, CA.

A short while later, officers from the Chula Vista PD picked up the homing signals from the 750I on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the vehicle to a residential area at Hilltop and L Street, where they found both the BMW and the suspect, who was arrested. The owner was very happy when his car was returned undamaged.
