The LoJack® System Helps LAPD and Hawthorne, California Ground and Air Police Units Recover Stolen Toyota Camry

This case involves a Toyota Camry stolen from a California residence. An LAPD air unit and ground and air units from Hawthorne, CA, combined forces and assisted by the LoJack® system, recovered the car in just two hours and 22 minutes.

On July 17th, 2013, the Camry’s owner contacted LAPD- West Lost Angeles to report their vehicle had been stolen from in front of their residence. LAPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Camry, which was installed at Toyota of Santa Monica, CA.

A short while later, an LAPD Air-3 flight crew received a signal from the Toyota on the LoJack tracking computer installed on their airship. Hawthorne PD Air-55 flight crew took over the air surveillance and notified ground units. A motor officer followed the Camry from the 405 Freeway to a parking lot. After backup arrived, a male suspect was taken into custody. The officers found stolen property and several shaved keys inside the vehicle. The undamaged Toyota was soon returned to its relieved owner.
