Police rely on the LoJack® system to help them located stolen vehicles quickly, so thieves don’t have much time to either take the vehicles apart or move them further away. In this case, a Volkswagen Beetle Convertible was recovered in just five minutes after activation.

On July 16th, 2013, the VW’s owners contacted Monrovia Police to report their vehicle had been stolen. Monrovia PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Bug, which was installed at New Century Volkswagen in Glendale, CA.

A very short time later, an officer from El Monte Police picked up the homing signal on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. He located the VW in an alley behind Klingerman St. The officer observed a male exit the vehicle and walk into the rear of an apartment building. When the suspect exited the building, he was detained and later arrested. The undamaged convertible was soon returned to its happy owners.
