Why would thieves go to the trouble of stealing a vehicle only to leave it in their own backyard? Well, having a car, truck, van or motorcycle parked at your home looks pretty normal. They can even change the license plate to avoid detection. What these thieves aren’t counting on is the LoJack® system-The concealed device, when activated, sends out a silent homing signal that can only be picked up by law enforcement, so whether they attempt to conceal the vehicle, change its appearance, or simply hide it in plain sight, LoJack will help police recover it quickly and return it to its rightful owner.

On June 30th, 2013, the Sierra’s owner contacted the Bakersfield office of the California Highway Patrol to report that their vehicle had been stolen. CHP verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the GMC, which was installed at Miramar Pontiac GMC Mazda in San Diego, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, a deputy with the Kern County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals from the GMC on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The truck was parked in a residential back yard.  The occupant of the residence was questioned and arrested. The undamaged Sierra was soon returned to its relieved owner.
