When vehicles are stolen, they are not always intended to be used or resold as a whole. Often, thieves prefer to disassemble them and sell the parts- it’s tougher to identify parts as stolen, and sometimes there’s more money to be made. With this scenario in mind, it’s to the victim’s advantage that the police track down your stolen car, truck, van or motorcycle as quickly as possible- and that’s where the LoJack® system helps, sending law enforcement a signal to track your vehicle quickly and safely.

On July 10th, 2013, the owners of a Chevrolet Tahoe contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department in Norwalk, CA to report their SUV had been stolen. LASD deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit, which was installed at Ken Grody Ford in Los Angeles, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, an officer from the South Gate PD picked up the homing signal from the Chevy on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle.  After requesting backup, he tracked the signal to the area of Southern and Trova Streets, where he found the Tahoe behind an apartment building. A male was removing specialty wheels from the vehicle and the third row seats were missing. The suspect was detained and the officers went to his apartment where they found the missing seats. The suspect was taken into custody and the SUV and all its parts were soon returned to the grateful owner.
