When the Marysville, CA resident in our next case was purchasing his 2012 Hyundai Genesis and decided to install the LoJack® system, he may or may not have thought he would ever have to use it. When his car was stolen and then recovered by local police, it’s pretty certain it’s one investment he was glad he made.

The victim reported his Genesis stolen to the Marysville PD on June 17th, 2013. A theft report was completed and the vehicle information was entered into the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the national system, NCIC. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the vehicle, which was installed at Roseville Hyundai in Roseville, CA.

A short time later, officers with the Yuba City Police Department began to receive the homing signal from the Genesis on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  They located the vehicle in a residential neighborhood on Copper St. A male suspect was leaning in the parked vehicle and was questioned by officers. The suspect, who has an extensive criminal record, had the keys to the car in his pocket. He was arrested for auto theft.  The Hyundai, valued at $25,900, was soon released to its very happy owner.
