The owner of a 2013 Hyundai Elantra was understandably upset when his new car went missing. He did have a reason to be glad as well- when he purchased his Hyundai just a few months earlier he chose to have the LoJack® system installed on it- giving local law enforcement an advantage in locating his car quickly.

On April 21st, 2013, the Elantra’s owner contacted San Diego, CA Police to report that his vehicle was stolen. SDPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Hyundai, which was installed at Romero Buick Hyundai Mazda in Ontario, CA.

A short time later, SDPD officers picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  Officers tracked the Hyundai to a residential area near Cambrose Avenue in San Diego.  The vehicle was stopped and the driver arrested. The Elantra, valued at approximately $19,025, was soon returned to its very happy owner.
