In this case, a car thief tries to make his escape with someone else’s Ford Escape, but is thwarted by local law enforcement, assisted by the LoJack® system.

On May 29th, 2013, the owner of a Ford Escape XLT contacted the San Diego County Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen.  SDPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Ford, which was installed at Right Toyota in Scottsdale, AZ.

A short while later, officers from SDPD picked up the homing signals from the Escape on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  The officers tracked the vehicle to a gas station in a residential area in San Diego.  The driver ran from the scene when he saw the officers approach and attempted to hide in a nearby apartment complex. A short time later, the suspect was located and arrested. The car’s owner was very happy when his undamaged Escape was returned to him.
