This California resident had one tough Sunday night when he was carjacked at gunpoint and his 2012 Chevrolet Equinox was stolen. The awful event was made a little easier because the Equinox’s owner had the LoJack® system installed when he purchased his vehicle, which helped police recover it only FOUR MINUTES after activation!

On May 12th, 2013, the victim immediately contacted the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department to report the carjacking. The vehicle information was entered into the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the national system. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Equinox, which was installed at John L. Sullivan Chevrolet in Roseville, CA.

A short time later, officers from both the Sacramento SD and the California Highway Patrol began to receive the homing signal from the Chevy on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers located the vehicle in back of an apartment complex near Alta Arden and Wright Streets. It was parked and unoccupied, and was soon returned to its very grateful owner.

Although the Equinox was equipped with a factory installed telematics device as well, officers using LoJack were able to track and locate the vehicle before the phone calls to and from the telematics provider could be completed.
