As you have heard and read many times, it’s not a good idea to leave your vehicle unattended with the keys in it- no matter where you are! Some Santa Monica, CA residents learned this lesson the hard way when their Volvo V70 was taken right out of their own driveway! Luckily, a lesson these owners paid attention to was ‘Protect Your Valuables’- they chose to have a LoJack® system installed when they bought their car, and their local police were able to recover it in just 29 minutes!

On March 9th, 2013, the V70’s owners contacted the Santa Monica police to report their vehicle had been stolen while they were unloading items and had left the keys in the vehicle.  When they returned outside, the Volvo was gone.  SMPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the vehicle, which was installed at Westside Volvo in Culver City, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Airship flight deputies received the homing signal from the Volvo on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their plane, and located the V70 driving on the  freeway.  The deputies alerted the California Highway Patrol (CHP) East LA area. CHP officers located the vehicle and approached as it was being parked in the lot of a large casino. The female driver claimed she had gotten the keys from a friend. She was taken into custody, and the undamaged Volvo was soon returned to its grateful owners.
