You never know what vehicle will catch the eye of a thief. Their targets can range from a small economy car to an immense piece of construction equipment. No matter what they choose to steal, two things are true- their action causes a great deal of anxiety for the vehicle’s owner, and there’s a much better chance of getting it back if there’s a LoJack® unit concealed inside it.

On April 4th, 2013, a local construction contractor discovered that a Ford F650 dump truck had been stolen from a job site in Fresno, California. The contractor contacted the Fresno Police Department and reported the theft. The Fresno PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device, which was installed at a large equipment rental company in Fresno, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, an officer from the Fresno PD picked up the homing signals from the truck on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his police vehicle. The officer communicated with other police in the area, and a California Highway Patrol Helicopter spotted the vehicle in Fresno. Ground units converged upon the F-650 and an adult male suspect was arrested. The dump truck was recovered intact and undamaged, and was quickly returned to its owner.
