When a car is parked next to an abandoned house, does that mean the car is abandoned too? Not necessarily. Auto thieves often use the grounds of an unoccupied residence or business as a ‘cooling off’ spot- to let the search for a missing vehicle die down a little before moving it to another location to either sell or dismantle it. However, the LoJack® System never cools off- it stays hot on the trail of your stolen car, truck or motorcycle until it’s found.

On April 10th, 2013, the owners of a Mercedes C320 reported to the DeKalb County, GA Police Department that their car had been stolen from their home during the night. The police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the vehicle, which was installed at  Bill Ussery Motors in Coral Gables, FL.

A DeKalb County Police Air Unit equipped with an onboard LoJack® tracking computer began receiving a homing signal coming from the stolen Mercedes. The helicopter tracked the signal to an abandoned house where the pilot spotted the stolen C320 parked behind it.  The pilot alerted police ground personnel who recovered the Mercedes and returned it to its owner.
