On January 14, 2013, the owners of a 2000 Honda Civic contacted Montebello Police Department to report their vehicle had been stolen.

Montebello Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

Minutes later, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Air-7 flight deputies picked up the LoJack signal and, following directions from their onboard LoJack Police Tracking Computer, tracked it 3 miles into the East Los Angeles area. There, they observed the vehicle stop at a residence and the two female occupants enter the building. Air-7 directed ground units to conduct surveillance while they reached a higher altitude for a better view. After a few minutes, the airship was able to observe the subjects return to the vehicle.  Ground units were directed back to the location and arrested the two occupants; both were later booked for Driving without Owners Consent.  The undamaged vehicle was quickly returned to the victim.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda Civic on October 31, 2006 through Direct Sales. The approximate value of the recovered vehicle is $5,400.
