LoJack Helps Chicago/Homewood Police Recover Mercedes Benz Stolen in Carjacking

On December 10, 2012, a 2006 Mercedes Benz was entered as stolen into the state and federal crime computers by Chicago Police. Apparently, the vehicle was taken in a carjacking on Chicago’s south side.
The next day, police officers from the suburb of Homewood picked up the LoJack Reply Code for the stolen Mercedes on the onboard Police Tracking Computers (PTC’s) in their squad car. The officers were able to track the LoJack signal to the neighboring suburb of Hazel Crest, where the stolen Mercedes Benz was found inside a garage.
The owner of the garage stated that her nephew had brought the car to her house asking if she would hold it for him a couple of days. The nephew then covered the car with a tarp and left. Chicago Police were notified of the recovery and sent a forensics unit to the recovery location to process the car in an attempt to recover evidence to use in prosecution of the carjacking. This investigation continues.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed at Mercedes Benz of Laguna Niguel in California in October of 2005. This is the 2nd occasion this car was stolen and recovered by the use of LoJack.
