On November 21, 2012 the owner of a 2012 Toyota Tacoma contacted the Tulare Police Department to report that the vehicle was stolen. The Tulare Police Department verified the theft and entered the Toyota’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, an officer from the Tulare Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the deputy tracked the vehicle to the vicinity of the 600 block of N Street near downtown Tulare. The officer located the vehicle unoccupied and abandoned in the alley.

The vehicle was recovered intact and undamaged; it was released to the owner at the scene.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota in July of 2012 at Toyota of Chula Vista in Chula Vista, California. This vehicle is valued at $26,000.
