On November 15, 2012 the owner of a 2000 Honda Accord contacted the Bakersfield Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The Bakersfield Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda.

About three hours later, a deputy from the Kern County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Honda on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the deputy tracked the vehicle to the parking lot of a convenience store in Bakersfield. The deputy observed the vehicle in the parking lot, occupied by several males. Assisting units responded and the deputies converged upon the vehicle, taking five males into custody – four juveniles and one adult. The suspects were all arrested for vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.

The vehicle was recovered intact and undamaged; it was released to the owner at the scene.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda in January of 2000 at Poway Honda in Poway, California. This vehicle is valued at $6,475.
