On Monday, December 3, 2012, the owner of a 2004 Toyota 4-Runner contacted the Philadelphia Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the area of Somerville Ave in Northwest Philadelphia.  The vehicle owner called 911 and Philadelphia Police Radio dispatched an officer to investigate the incident. The officer arrived on location, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the Toyota’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota 4-Runner.

A short while later, officers from the Philadelphia Police Department’s 35th District picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to the area of 500 Fischer Street. The officers cautiously approached the vehicle and determined that same was unoccupied. They confiscated the vehicle for safekeeping and the notified the owner of the recovery.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2004 Toyota Four Runner on January 14, 2004 at Gateway Toyota UAG in Toms River, New Jersey.
